The Marines have re-signed 31-year old lefty reliever Oliver Perez to a 1-year, $1.5 million dollar deal. Perez pitched in 33 games (0 starts) for the Mariners last year and he was 1-3 with a 2.12 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has now pitched in 239 games (195 starts) in his first 10 years in the majors and he is 59-72 with a 4.57 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. Perez looked pretty good as a full-time reliever for the Mariners in 2012 and they hope it’s just a glimpse of things to come. Perez still has outstanding stuff and he’s nasty when throwing strikes.
